Today I am thankful that I serve a God who gives second chances…and third chances…and fourth chances.
It’s safe to say I screw up… a lot. I mess up more than I would care to admit. But I am so thankful that no matter how many times I sin and fail God, His grace never runs out and His love never fails. I’m thankful that, because of the blood of Jesus, God wipes the slate clean when I approach Him for forgiveness.
Charles Spurgeon once wrote, “He is like a continual fountain, always flowing, in order to supply His empty pitchers and to quench the thirsty lips that come to Him. … His grace, whether used to pardon, to cleanse, to strengthen, to enlighten, to restore, or to make us alive in Him, is always freely available to us. Not only is there no cost to us for His grace, but there is not one work of His grace He has not bestowed on His people.”
I think about King David, the man we know “who was after God’s own heart.” I think about the times he messed up, didn’t follow God’s commands, and went about things his own way—and yet when David pleaded with Him, God forgave him, drew him back in, and loved him. What an encouragement for us to know that God doesn’t quit loving us when we fail!
The gospel says God will love you despite the fact that you may not meet His standards or obey His commands. It’s unconditional. – Tullian Tchividjian, the Glorious Ruin Bible study
So today, I’m thankful that God is forgiving and loving. I’m thankful that His love for me is great and unconditional.
